Mandala Spa & Villas Boracay Wins the “Oscars” of the Travel Industry Claims Their Fourth Prestigious World Travel Award As the Philippines’ Leading Resort for 2011

Hailed as the “Oscars of the travel industry”, the black tie red carpet gala WTA Asia & Australasia Awards Ceremony 2011 was held on September 28 at the Dusit Thani Bangkok, Thailand, gathering the industry’s elite, senior tourism leaders, captains of industry and international media including CNN, Harper’s Bazaar, Thailand Tatler, Bangkok Post, National Geographic Traveller and Lonely Planet, from over 30 nations across Asia and Australasia, honoring the leading brands from these regions.

Receiving the highly coveted WTA statuette trophy that evening was Jove Schrottmann, Mandala Spa & Villas Resort Manager who has been rejuvenating the famed wellness resort since returning from Switzerland. The momentous occasion was indeed a huge cause for celebration, as to be voted and awarded a World Travel Award by a process involving 183,000 travel tourism and hospitality professionals across the globe from 164 countries, is the highest and most influential accolade a company can receive. There are many awards throughout the world, but only one World Travel Award. The Wall Street Journal, thus describes the awards as the ‘Oscars’ of travel and tourism. This year, a phenomenal 213,000 industry professionals participated in the voting process, as well as visitors to the WTA website who cast their votes via online voting, which was scrupulously monitored and independently audited.

The grueling process began with the nominations where only companies that go the extra mile to outperform their peers and truly offer an exceptional experience for their customer as well as exceeding business performance with innovative ideas, make the cut. The nominations are then vetted and inspected by a group of industry experts who review each entry based on customer relations, creativity, quality of service, standards, guest satisfaction, product innovation and business acumen. The final contenders include each region’s leading tourist boards, airlines and luxury hotels, with over 5,000 organizations from across 160 countries competing in over 1,000 categories.

This year, MSV bested other contenders for the Philippines’ Leading Resort for 2011, including Amanpulo, Hilton Cebu Resort & Spa and Plantation Bay. Other WTA 2011 Philippine winners were Pan Pacific Manila (Philippines’ Leading Business Hotel) and Mandarin Oriental Manila (Philippines’ Leading Hotel).

The highlight of the evening’s ceremonies was the speech given by Graham E. Cooke, President & Founder of World Travel Awards, who underlined the incredible strength of the region’s travel and tourism economy,and Asia’s role in spearheading the global recovery in travel and tourism. He expressed, “Asia is powering the global travel and tourism recovery, and tonight’s winners represent the very cream of our industry. We expect this growth to continue for at least the next decade, making the future very bright indeed for Asia’s luxury hospitality sector.” Also noted that evening was that Asia has experienced double-digit growth in tourist arrivals during the first half of 2011, despite the impact of the tsunami in Japan and the on-going austerity challenges in Europe and North America.

The Asia & Australasia Ceremony marks the fourth leg of the World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, and follows the legs in Dubai UAE, Antalya Turkey, and Sharm El Sheikh Egypt, while Montego Bay, Jamaica will play host to the final heat on the 19th of October. The regional winners will then progress to the Grand Final at the end of the year.
